Fuzz on fretless?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm eagerly awaiting my new G&L L2500 fretless to arrive. I'm wondering what I can use for a nice fuzz with it. Nothing too overpowering, but a nice throaty growl.

I'm looking at the Oxide (so I can dial it up if I want, plus I'm intrigued by the voice switch), but would something like a VT pedal be better for fretless?

Thanks in advance for your input.

The VT isn't exactly fuzz, but it does work nicely with a fretless. I'm also one of those who sticks with a Russian Big Muff, even though it is probably the worst Big Muff of them all, and I also have a 3xfx Fatman v1 w/canvas, which is my go-to dirt (until my Muff is fixed; it's been almost a year since I've even looked at it). All three worked well enough with my fretless, and those are the only three I've tried.

I just got a Squier VM Jazz Fretless and it sounds great with both pedals but the best is the Oxide into Xero! Slide those grease bubbles around like a mofo!
The only thing about the Oxide with my fretless is the signal of the bass drops off quickly when sliding, and the gate kicks in.

I also use a clean VT setting after the Oxero to add some presence.

Yeah, I didn't really mean to imply that. Was just curious if an all out fuzzbox was too much, rather than simple gain growl.

A Rat would be great with fretless.
