Fuzz help!

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm a rookie bassist looking for some fuzz and not crazy about the few big brand pedals I tried at the local shop! For starters I really like that BRMC sound if that helps?
I did do a good deal of searches befor popping the question.
My short list.
Grey Stache
TAFM
Lo-Tone
Bluebeard
Oxide

What do you guys think?

Bluebeard may be a little too doomy/heavy for his tone. TAFM and oxide may be a little too gated for a majority of their stuff.

i actually THINK that alot of his sound is from a Tube Screamer and something else.. but not fuzz. I thought there was a thread I was subscribed to that covered it.. but I cant find it.

edit...
i found a forum that list his gear as :

"So. First of all Rob is using 2x Ampeg Svt-II 300W tube amp with 2x 8x10 cabinets.
Somewhere i saw that he is using:

Electro Harmonix Tube Zipper, tube screamer, boss dd3 ,voodoo axe, Big muff, Boss DS1, Boss metalzone""

and it looks like this:

Rob's fuzz was a Roger Mayer Voodoo-Bass in the earlier days, and he's currently running a pair of Vintage FX Colordrives (aka "Rob's Black Pedals"). Out of the fuzzes you listed, I'd hit Ry up on a Stache. They're all good choices, but the stronger midrange voice and adjustability of the Stache is going to get you closer to the ballpark.

Thanks for your replay! I own the Colordrive and OD by Vintage FX!
I bought them used here on TB for a great price and I am happy with them but since I am not running them through a big tube rig it's just not the same but they are cool.

So that makes me think a dedicated fuzz like the Stache which is top of my list will get me some fun tone to play around with.

check out the way huge swollen pickle. you have to mess with the internal trim pots to really get a good sound out of the pickle though.
