Fuzz Recommendations

Sign in to disble this ad
Ok, so I was surfing BJFE's forum and there is a listing with a bunch of BJF pedals for sale (no 3BOD's).

In the listing there is a BJFE Custom Shop Folk Fuzz. Here is the description:

Quote:
BJF Folk Fuzz - $450
Good organic fuzz pedal. Lots of flexibility from PURR to GROWL. Think classic rock, southern rock, roots rock.
This describes very well what I'm looking for in a fuzz but $450.00 is out of my price range. So, based on your experiences, what other fuzzes are out there that would match the description in the listing and do a good job of maintaining bottom end? 9V and the smaller the better is desirable.

FYI, in case your interested, here is a link to the listing:

I'd be willing to spend around half that....$250.00ish.

Do you play active basses, passive, or both?

I have to say that is one vague description. That sounds like a description for any copy of any vintage pedal to me.

So.

First go digging and see if you can find where someone compares it to something else, if you find nothing find people that have one online and blatantly ask them what it sounds like, everything sounds like something to someone.

And.

Post us a few clips of sounds you like that point in the direction you want to trod off in.

And!

List what you have tried so we don't recommend things you have already tried.

AND!!!

Just by chance I'd say.... fuzzfacetonebenderbigmuff or something like that....

I play both. Main basses are a Sterling by Musicman SB14 and Fender P.

Here is a link with a little more info and a link to a sample (guitar was all I could find....sorry!).

I don't have an exact sound I can point to. I've had an El Grande which was too high gain to my ear. I currently have a Mastotron which I like but I'd like to find something a little less synthy.

See above

Sounds interesting, where can I get one of those!

Hard to tell with a strat but to me it sounds like it is based on a fuzz face/tonebender [not the orange colorsound one] type of fuzz.

The thing that makes it hard to tell with his guitar's tone is how it will sound on a bass at all, basses put about a whole different signal and the fuzz will react different accordingly. Also all they did was compare it to other fuzzes buy the builder which is never helpful to me.
