FuzzBattle: B:assmaster vs Bass Big Muff

Sign in to disble this ad
Posted the other one, and still have a ton of time to kill. I got fooling around recording and decided I'd do a blind fuzz battle to see who wins.

Fuzz 1 - Double Germ B:assmaster
Fuzz 2 - Bass Big Muff.

Double Germ B:assmaster is the winner by the narrowest margin (27-25).

These are actually the exact two fuzzes that I'm considering. Is this the silicon or germanium B:assmaster?

I thought clip 1 sounded more like the clips of the B:assmaster that I've heard, so that's my guess.

There were 3 different sounds on #2 and the bass Big Muff has a 3 way swutch and one position is clean and the last part of #2 was clean so I would guess that 2 is the Bass Big muff

I'm not a fan of either sound, but that's just personal preference as I like a nasty biting compressed fuzz.

I guess I would go with #1.

Thanks for doing this, I enjoy these blind tests.

For all these polls your're doing tonight, can you list the recording setup? Is it the same as your normal reviews....bass->pedal->Radial->mixer->computer?

Yep... I'm using the P bass... well because I started with the mammoth which sounds like ass with my active bass.

The first clip sounds like other clips I've heard of the B:Assmaster, and the first part of the second clip sounds like classic Muff to me. The B:Assmaster is a funny thing in that I have mad GAS for it even though I have never liked even one clip I've ever heard of it. It's just the cosmetics that have me wanting it.

Interesting. I thought this one would be a slam dunk, but I honestly don't know which is which.

I didn't hear the sound I associate with the Assmaster. Is this a double germ version? Both clips sounded smoother than the Malekko I tried.

And not having tried the Bass Big Muff I was expecting that classic Muff sound. I'm guessing it's the second one, but a little different from the old NYC Muff that I had.

That fuzz blended 50/50 is still one of my favorite sounds.

I've always loved when Robert Sledge used it with BFF. Like on the chorus of Battle of Who Could Care Less. One of the few tones I've tried to outright copy.

I like the first one a little more, but I like the second one too. I own the Bass Big Muff and am pretty sure that number 2 is it.

I like fuzz #1 a whole lot more as #2 sound a bit like it's got a blanket on it. But I will have to say that I set my #1 way different than the settings in fuzz 1.

2 is definitely the big muff. i'd recognize that lack of interesting anywhere. either that or i'm WAY off with my pedal's settings

I liked #1 better and thought #2 was the BBM. They both sounded good to me. I guess #2 was a bit warmer but somehow I don't like the blended sound.

#1= Assmaster.
#2= BBM.

All three clips in #1 have clean blend. Sounds one and two in #2 have no clean blend. While I understand you could cut clean volume on the Assmaster, I'm going to go ahead and just assume that you were just switching through the modes on the BBM, one with no blend but bass boost, two normal, and three with blend.

Regardless, #1 is totally the Assmaster sound. One of the first clips I've heard that actually sounds really cool.

I'd go with Fuzz 1. Got a feeling that's the Assmaster as well..

I'm pretty damn sure number 2 was the Muff. I thought the best sound was the second riff on clip 1.
