FuzzBattle: Brown Dog vs. Woolly Mammoth (FIGHT!)

Sign in to disble this ad
Just spending some time with these two, pending doing a full review on bassfuzz. I got fooling around recording and decided I'd do a blind fuzz battle to see who wins.

Fuzz 1 - Woolly Mammoth
Fuzz 2 - Brown Dog

Winner: Woolly Mammoth 35-15!

One thing to note, the total range of the fuzz is being explored via knob turning. 1 is low to high, 2 is high to low

I think I know which one is which. That being said, I'll go with fuzz 1 edging out fuzz 2.

The opening sound in fuzz 2 sounds exactly like the Mammoth I had. The only sound I liked out of either of them was the third tone in fuzz 1. IOW if they were fighting for my money, one would just lose worse than the other.

#1 sounds like the Brown Dog, and I like it better than the number two which Im guessing is the mammoth (bongo's confirmation seals it for me), effectively eliminating my mammoth gas- nice. Looking forward to the review!

personally I think you can get the mammoth sound out of the brown dog (or at least close), but the mammoth does nothing except 'mammoth sound'

Exactly what I was going to say...I like different parts from both samples, but I'm going with #1 on this.

I've had a Mammoth and at the moment have a clone (impulse buy) and I just sold my Squeezer, so I'm pretty certain I know which is which.

I think the Brown Dog can get close to the ZVex, but I have yet to play a fuzz that does exactly what the Mammoth does. But as you point out, that's pretty much all it does.

Oh, you're not helping my Brown Dog gas.

Voted for #1, because it is capable of much better sounds.
