Fuzzrocious question

Sign in to disble this ad
After finally selling my Messdrive I now have the cash to acquire a new fuzz pedal and I'm looking in the direction of Muff or a Muff clone/derivative. Right now I am most keen on the Fuzzrocious Green Stache or Mail Order Muff.

I know some of you have experience with the Stache and speak very highly of it, but I was wondering if anyone has tried the Mail Order and what your thoughts are on it. Also, how do they compare to, let's say, the Bass Big Muff and the Supercollider?

Many thanks!

I have a Mail Order Muff on order, so I can give you some feedback when I get it. Ryan has already modded a Rat for me, so I can say that he's one of the most legit cats I've ever done business with. Great communication every step of the way and totally listens to customer thoughts/ideas/suggestions along the way. He's also one of the nicest guys I've ever spoken to.

I can't recommend him enough.

I have the Green Stache and a Supercollider and I will say that I prefer the Stache over my Supercollider. I love the Supercolliders versatility and I still use it alot, but I the Stache is my "turn to" fuzz. That thing can get soo brutal. Havent tried the mail order.

Booyah! Thanks Thom (vegas)!!!

Evan Weiss from Damiera and Thomas Mitchener from HAUNTS are both using the Mail Order Muff and have said that it stacks up to the Sovtek Big Muff Pi (green). Thomas Mitchener is a TB user. You can hit him on here or on his band's MySpace.

JD @ General Guitar Gadgets has created some AMAZING replicas of the original muff circuitry and stepped up the game with his GGG-tuned version.

So onto comparisons to the Supercollider and Bass Big Muff...
Since the Bass Big Muff is based partly on the Sovtek Big Muff, the sound should be close to the Mail Order Muff, but obviously you'll have more options with the EHX's blend function. When compared to the Green Stache, that's a different story. The Green Stache is more midsy and much more gainy. Jeff (Bassenstein) uses it for a wall of sound fuzz. If you want more bass response, go for the Bass Big Muff or Mail Order Muff. If you want to fuzz your brains out, the Green Stache or Blue Beard or other high gain fuzz would win over the Bass Big Muff or Mail Order Muff...but if you want a blend, the Bass Big Muff is your best bet. Grygrx has a great review of the BBM over at http://bassfuzz.com. Definitely check it out!

The Supercollider, as many attest to on this forum, has a lot of tweakability! 5 knobs, mids control, smoothness or warm gain on tap. You get more options on hand with the SC.

I have a Supercollider Beast, but am very interested in checking out the GGG tuned muff too. I reckon I'll get a breadboard and a load of components in, then tweak it myself, add feedback mods etc until I get the perfect muff!

And I have yet to find a fuzz that does this better.
Plus going with Fuzzrocious you can get custom paint, awesome service, mods, etc... Cant go wrong.
My g*****ist used the Stache once and now his '75 Muff is going on the shelf and his Stache is in the works.

Jeff - Which "version" is his 1975 muff?

Danny - do up the feedback mod for sure w/ an LDR. It'll rock your socks off and burn them alive.

Its like the transition period one. Old circuit in the newer box. Worth a good bit. I think its a '75 but id have to ask him to make sure. He has been havin some issues with the jacks and doesnt want to gig it anymore.
