FX Loop Problem

Sign in to disble this ad
Okay here is the set up -

Portaflex PF500 Amp and in the FX loop (which has an FX Mix knob) I have a Carl Martin Bass Chorus (just got it).

So my problem is when I have the FX mix at 50%...I get almost NO signal coming through the amp unless the Carl Martin is ON (wet signal). When the pedal is off (dry and bypassing the pedal) I either have to turn up the FX Mix to 100% to hear anything or down to zero.

I have tried different pedals in the FX loop and they all bypass fine when they are off, so I know it isn't the Pot or the electronics on the amp.

Is this just how the Carl Martin is designed, or is it defective (or not have true bypass).

HELP!

When you do what you described, you are adding a phase-inverted copy of the signal to itself in equal proportion, so the signals cancel each other out.

That pedal was not meant to be put in a blended loop.

So I need a different chorus pedal if I want to use it in the fx loop then?

I guess the other question would be " how does one figure out stuff like that before you buy a pedal"?

You can try the pedal with your gear in person, you can painstakingly search on info for each pedal in hopes of finding the information you need, or you can buy from places with a really good return policy.

Only the first and last will work with certainty.

Just use the chorus in front of the amp, as it was intended. If you want to use the amps loop, get a rack fx unit. (line level).

^^^ Bingo! Pedals generally don't go in the amp's loop.
