FX Setup for Headphones?

Sign in to disble this ad
So... I've finally decided on what I wanna do with the Lunchbox.

Im gonna make a mini-rig-practice/headphone-for-my-big-boards type setup.

Im bassically looking to run drive->preamp or boost->preamp to my TU-2 then to my recently acquired Earwig.

Im thinking that if I go boost->preamp I can use the boost to get more volume on the headphones with my main setup, but also get some drive out of the preamp.

If I go drive->preamp I would have to get a pre that would be able to be used as a clean boost as well as a tone shaper....

One setup I have in mind sorta combines the 2: Sparkle Drive->VTBass. I can use the SD as a boost or drive, it has a blend and I kind of wanna get a VT again for the SVT sound.

Thoughts?

I use a BB Preamp -> VT Bass -> JDI -> Behringer Micromon MA400 headphone amp. With my Peavey T-40 it sounds monstrous.

You should get similar results substituting the Sparkle Drive for the BB, but I prefer the BB since it can give a bass boost. I use it set to low gain as a dirty boost because clean boosts are for wusses.

Bump + another idea:

Hematoma -> VTBass or Submarine.

The Hema does feature a 5db boost, which might do for the boosting that I need on the GT/Fuzz stuff (its a recording levels thing BTW, otherwise I'd just bump up the GT's master volume or the mixer channels). I could then use the VT or Sub for a clean tubish type sound and add in some dark OD with the Hema, plus have a 2nd level of dirt or volume on the clean side with the boost.

I almost wanna stay away from anything with blends for this mini rig.....

Stay with the Earwig...

Even though Enea Acconciamessa has a new model that only takes 9V batteries for less, I'd still stay with it. They're the best.

Center pos power tho. I just chipped out a little section of the battery cover and put a powerall battery clip adapter in there.

Works beautifully.

I've also decided to revisit the XXL>TLSF stuff I was trying a while ago. (my gt+fuzz setup is loud enough thru the earwig at the recording level I have it at, no boost!) The XXL sounds pretty cool Tone min, Drive min, Warp min, I just gotta get the TLSF to play a little nicer....

Well, I discovered a really great XXL>TLSF setup, but both my sets of cans ****ING BROKE

Oh well. I did discover that the clean "side" of the TLSF adds some treble, which brings out the dirt on the XXL a little more. Hook/filter side adds some extra-extra grit when I want it......
