Is it possible to use a boost/compression without losing bottom end?

I've been on a long search for something that will help me extend the sustain length of a held note. Adding a bit of dirt to the signal is OK and also part of the goal. The nature of a compressor is to shrink the largest part of the wave form and expand the smaller parts, correct? So by this logic, i'm bound to lose low-end "oomph" when such an effect is activated?

I found a Blackbox Oxygen (gain/gate/limit/release/comp/dirt) for cheap and have been using it for the last few shows...not bad...but I did notice a lack of low-end bass when it was active.

I play a p-bass > svt > 410.

thanks
adam

I like the Digitech BP 200 pedal. It has enough to work with. I've used it with my svT4pro and 410hlf.......................

That thing is just a box of noise. I do not recommend even trying to get good results out of it, for anyone.
