Gain stages and unity with pedals?

so i have another thread here where i talk about my gk mb210 with a gk mbe 410 being overloaded by my Fuzz Factory and VT bass.

it shut off on me cuz i think i was feeding it too much.

so could someone explain gain stages an unity with pedal volume?

I am not 100% I understand the problem.

There are two ways to avoid overload.

1) Lower the output of the pedal so it sounds at the same volume when it is on or off. In other words set the pedal to gain=1.

2) Set the amp gain to work with no clipping with the higher of the two levels of the pedal (regardless if it is with the pedal on or off).
