Gator G-Bus-8 Pedal Power Supply Help

Sign in to disble this ad
If anyone could help me out with this I'd be thankful. If anyone else uses this power supply please take a second to look at the screening on the 9V output side of the unit and compare what you have there to mine.

I have a Gator G-Bus-8 power supply that came with a pedal tote I picked up a while ago. What strikes me as odd about this unit is that the screen graphic that shows the polarity as tip positive for the 9 volt outputs. On the Gator website the model is show with the 9 volt outputs being tip negative (http://www.gatorcases.com/productima...US-8-SIDE1.jpg).

I don't have access to a volt meter to check exactly what my power supply is outputting but it works ok with boss products that require 9V with tip negative. I've just never noticed this screening before. Was their an error in manufacturing and the screening on my G-Bus is just wrong?

Yeah, it will work fine with Boss-style plugs. I have all my pedals plugged into my G-Bus 8 and it works great.

just make sure if you have a pedal like the RAT make sure you get an adaptor before you try plugging it in,... I accidentally assumed that the 18V worked cos it had the same plug type,... glad I didn't hurt either the Gbus or my pedal with that one!

My G-Bus-8 is as shown in the photo you linked which (forgive my ignorance) I thought was tip positive (center negative).

Ahh. Let me clarify. Mine is reverse from what you listed Warwick. On mine it's screened as outside (ring) neg inside (dot) positive.

I would email Gator! That's weird. Either they mislabeled a batch, or something else even more stupid is happening at their factory!

The correct way to interpret the labeling in this photo is "barrel positive, center negative". In other words, "BOSS Style" - standard!

Hmmm,...sounds like it could be a manufacturer error, but I've never read anything to confirm that concretely.

FWIW I power two boss pedals (and daisy chain a third off of a TU-2),...a Supercollider, a Groove Regulator and 442 Red of the G-Bus-8. I've had no issues, but I'm also mindful of a pedal's power requirements before I pull the trigger.

Yup. It's odd. I've got an email into gator asking about it. If I can I'll post a pic of my unit (the gator) tonight.

Emailing a company of that size is sometimes a bit of a waste. Call their customer service number and I imagine you'll get faster results.

Here is a pic of what mine looks like. Apologies for the blurry iPhone pic. You can see that the barrel is marked as negative with tip marked positive.

That's so weird! I'm about 85% sure that it's a mis-print. So few 9v dc pedals are center positive that it wouldn't make much sense to engineer a power supply with 8 'reverse' outlets!

If it works w/ your BOSS pedals, it's likely safe with the rest of your 9v dc center negative pedals. But I'm not gonna buy you new ones if it doesn't!!!

Here is the response I got from the Gator rep.

I did some research and found out that a batch of the G-BUS power supply had the polarity reversed. However, the cables that were supplied with the unit were polarity reversing cables. Therefore, as long as you have the cables that were originally supplied with your pedal tote, they should work just fine.

So looks like they had an ewps in manufacturing and caught it before it went out the door. Always good to know that you got something "special" I suppose.
