Getting decent sound with RP80 guitar effects pedal?

So one of my friends is willing to sell me an rp80 guitar pedal like this one: http://www.zzounds.com/item--DGTRP80 . Now, I realize it is designed for a guitar, but would it be possible to make some patches to get it to sound good for a bass? Im looking mostly for metal sounding bass. Thanks.
