Sign in to disble this ad
My Bass just isnt getting a fat enough tone for me, i have an ibanez sr500 with running into a tech 21 sansamp bass driver,a gallien krueger 700rb II, and an ashdown mag 410 cabinet. i was wondering if an eq pedal would help me out at all?? or what eq setup should i have?

Invest in a 15".

IMO. Replacing the BDDI with a VT Bass may help, but you're almost always better off with a more complete rig.

I have the 5 string version of your bass, and man is it hard to get a "fat" tone. I go for more of a growly high-mids sound with it, it's not good for much else. That said, your amp's EQ should help. Boost your low mids, trim off the top end, this should help. Also, don't use a lot of EQ on the onboard pre-amp, at most a quarter turn from flat on any band.

If you're looking for an effects unit, any Aphex Exciter will help you out. One my basses is an SR800 with EMG's and it sounds great with my rack mounted Aphex Aural Exciter.

Feed your bass a burger.

Seriously - you probably have lots of clashing EQ. Set everything flat, then use your amp EQ to set the tone. This isn't really a question that's solved by buying more gear.

Unless that gear is a new bass. The Ibby SR500 isn't a bass I think of for "fat" tones.

+1. Their literature says that this box synthesizes harmonics and in so doing fills out the sound, but I'm pretty sure that there's actually a tiny wizard inside it that magically adds sweetness and fatness to yer tone.
