Sign in to disble this ad
I think I'll be getting a GGG kit, to give me something to do with my soldering iron.
I know I want the muff, but I'm not sure what variant to make.
I could make the GGG-tuned version, but I also like what Godstomper does with the Green Russian Muff, so I'm not sure.
I welcome any input, constructive or otherwise on the subject. After all, you are all fellow Denizens of the Effects forum.
And give me a good reason as to why.

That requires me getting a bread board... but I guess it would be a sound investment in the long run...

I did the GGG-tuned circuit and then changed the tone stack for a mids boost. Recommended. |

More mids, less mids, more bass, less bass, more grit, less grit, etc etc etc! |

A fuzz that isn't too muffled and mixed under, but retains some sort of sharp, gritty, grindy edge. Something that has an unsettling edge of evil to it.
Sort of a more stoner Godflesh, if you will.
I doubt this will make any sense. This might help some, as will this, if that's even possible with one pedal.
I might have to break down and just do the breadboard and see what I like.

If you don't want it very muffled but still want some low end, then I'd recommend more mids. The Godflesh song doesn't sound very Muff-ish to my ears. After the GGG kit, I'd recommend getting a DS-1 for cheap and modding it for something that could get similar to that clip. |

I have a mids knob. I start with it counter-clockwise for the scooped sound and then bring in more and more mids as I go (along with playing with the tone knob). |

Besides, the pedal is 65 bucks + shipping and the breadboard isn't that much more, and electronic stuff can be had at radio shack or similar for cheap, and then I'll be able to get what I want, soundwise.
Thanks for that idea guys.

Good luck Thunderscreech as well.
The only GGG muff i have seen and heard in person was the GGG tuned muff, and even stock it sounded very good!

I believe in his case that's an acronym for "German Goo Girls". Lots of GGG muff in those videos! |

I mean... with pedal names like Cream Pie and Swollen Pickle you've gotta be pretty darn dense to not giggle some.
FWIW, GGG in this case is how the website General Guitar Gadgets is commonly abbriviated.
