Just tried this out for the first time at a gig Saturday night. We were playing one of two songs in our repertiore in which I get to take a solo, a funky A minor bluesy thing written by our lead guitarist, and come solo time I stomped it and just went all "White Room" on the house. My wife (who sings in the band and who didn't know I'd added the Subwah to my signal chain) just stood there slack-jawed. After the song she said, "What the hell is THAT? I nearly crapped my pants!"
Anyone else use one of these? It's got two wah modes, plus envelope follower and auto wah. The auto is useless to me, and the envelope is pretty good but not as good as the new MXR (which was on my pedal board for a while but now isn't). I gotta say I do love having the control that an actual wah pedal gives you... so many more phrasing options than an envelope. Not sure if I love the "sub" setting (some radical low-end boost that was challenging the front-end of my compressor), but the basic bass-tuned wah mode is killer. It's optical and therefore quiet in the pedal travel. If it holds up to the abuse of my 5#1+ kicker cowboy boots, I'll be sold.

I will say this, Gigfx need to make a stand alone envelop filter based on this pedal's setting. It truly has a unique flavor. |

The bass response in this pedal can be like a brick wall for sure. And aggressive but the user just has to adjust the pedal, amp, bass and playing accordingly.
I like the filter mode. And it can get very funky. I have talked to Gig-FX about doing a stand alone filter because it really does bring the funk.

My main concern with any pedal is that it not take ANYTHING away from the essential tone on the instrument so I generally don't like them. But I did play guitar for awhile and really enjoyed using a wahwah then so I would love to have one for my bass if it actually sounded good. But I don't like the sound of most of of the Wah tone I hear used with bass.
On a historical note with this it would be interesting to find out what Greg Lake used way back in the early 70's though. Whatever he did to get his bass wah tone it sounded awesome. I've never tried one which even came close to the sound he was getting. |

This wah is pretty darn expressive, the envelope that is built in is nice as well. I was running my Xero Deluxe in a real dub setting into the SubWah and it sounded good. This isn't going to kick anything off my board but is a welcome addition. I am suprised about the lack of info or support on TB for the SubWah. |

I've tried the Dunlop and Morley and both of them drop the signal on the low B string (which I actually have tuned down to A). I'm using the Botsy Collins sig. right now which works great, but I've had to have it fixed up a few times and I'm tired of the maintenance. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
