Gigging/rehearsing with a 1/2 rack unit?

If you gig/rehearse/travel with a single 1/2 rack unit, how do you do it?
Rack it?
Carry it in a padded bag?
Cut a large stuffed animal in half and stick it in?
Or what?

Ideas ....

Most folks I've seen mention this say they use a little padded case. For example there are some padded cases designed for tambourines, microphones, and recording devices which happen to work well for a 1/2 rack.

That part is easy. The real difficulty comes when you have more than one 1/2 rack unit from different brands and you realize that there's no way to attach them side by side so that they actually fit in 1 RU. The only way it works is if you have two units of the same brand and the proprietary rack shelf designed for them.
