give me suggestions for some fuzz/overdrive/distortions.

ok, to start with, here's what i have in the way of grindy/od'ed/fuzzy/distorted preamps/pedals...

db680 (not really distortable, but what i pass all my signals through)

marshall jmp1
ada mp1
sansamp rbi
mxr blowtorch
mojohand huckleberry
zvex mastotron

as far as distortions go, i like it all, pretty much, but i'm really looking for quirky over-the-top things.

i already plan on either building a clone or just buying a prunes and custard, so i don't need that suggestion. also hoping to get a used b:assmaster germ/modded if i can ever have the dough when one comes available. the 3xfx fatman v2 sounds tasty, although not sure what i'd use it for. of course, that's never stopped me before.

so, that being said, any suggestions? gotta play nice with actives and the low b and lower too.

I come bearing overdrive recommendations...

On a more serious note, I'd recommend the Ashdown Hyperdrive. It sounds great, it's just a bit ugly...

The clean blend is a great feature and it's great for adding grit. It can get buzzy if you turn up the drive. There's a frequency pot to select the range that you want the drive to effect. It's got a 10dB boost switch as well which is a pretty useful feature.

Since you aren't afraid of rack gear, give an Aguilar AGRO a spin if you can. It is the dirty channel of the AG500 and is a fantastic solid state dirt unit. It can be used at line or instrument level, and has a lot of flexibilty due to all the knobs and switches. I don't know if it qualifies as quirky, but it can certainly do over-the-top.

I actually like how the Hyperdrive looks, but regardless of looks, they're a nice pedal, IMO the only downside is that (like all Ashdown pedals) they're pretty damn big, but the cool little Ashdown VU meter (think that's what it's called) makes up for it

I'd also like to suggest you try out some Blackstar pedals if you can, IMO they make great distortion pedals.
