given up on pedals

Hey guys, I like many of you here on talkbass have quite a bad case of gas. Up until recently, my drug of choice was effects pedals. I couldn't stop buying new pedals. I had four overdrives, three fuzz, two wahs, three chorus pedals, two flangers and too many delay pedals to count.
After about 6 or 7 years of playing with fx i realized that i hated my tone (other than my fuzz) so one day i was getting ready for practice and decided to leave my board at home.
For the first time it was just the bass, the cable, and the amp. Its been about a year without fx now, and i havent really looked back. Im much happier with my tone and now i dont have to lug all that extra **** around with me.
So i wanna hear from you guys. any other recovering effects junkies out there?

You should still at least have a tuner live.

I'll take any effects off your hands that you still have lying around!

Just curious - what made you start buying pedals in the first place?

bass > tuner > PorkLoin > amp

That's all I need.

when i was younger, i felt totally uninspired as a bassist, got really bored quick and was never happy with the way anything sounded, it was finding effects that opened up lots of crazy doors for me back then!

nowadays im very happy having a noodle plugged straight into my amp, but i always like a bit of grit on my tone at least.

I went through a similar phase, adding more and more to the chain to enhance it and add warmth. Till one day at home I plugged straight in the amp to try something and was astonished by the tone I already had lurking underneath everything.

After drastic resizing, I'm down to a small board with about 8 pedals, most of which are always on 'utility' pedals such as LS-2, eq, compressor and tuner. Only real effects are drive and fuzz.
