Question Godflesh bass tones

Bass hits at about 0:20, if you want to skip the intro stuff.
It sounds aggressive.

It's most likely a heavy overdrive. But I could be wrong.

I can barely hear any bass in that clip, and I've got good headphones. The bass that I can hear is just a slight grunting noise that suggests to me he's got his mids all scooped out, and the dirt on top could even be just fret buzz, but could conceivably be an overdrive or a miked tube amp.

I can barely hear any bass either, it sounds really aggressive. Jazz Bass for sure, really hard picking with a pick.

I think it sounds like it has some OD, very bright sounding though.

I think he was just clanking two (heavy)metal pipes together.

doesn't sound like fret buzz to me sounds like a very heavy overdrive a boss HM-2 would probly be your best bet. The guitars have a very mid heavy sound to

not the easiest to hear...

Nevertheless, the closest I come to a good godflesh tone is cranking a Marshall Superbass up to about 9.5 on one of the bright channels!

Word on street is that Green used Boss HM-2-->Boss Bass EQ-->Amp. HM-2 for full out distortion action, and then the EQ to bring back some low-end. I'm not sure if that's the case for this particular song, but it's supposedly what he used live.

My best attempts at Godflesh-y bass tones have less to do with the gear (though distortion is obviously necessary) than with the intensity with which I attack the strings. I really have to slam them with a lot of force to get those sounds no matter how much or little gain I use. I actually find that a bit less gain and a bit more force yields the best results. Hope that helps.

Although an odd choice, the Boss MD-2 will cop Godflesh style grind.

Never tried one on a bass before. But that's makes me interested now.

So, the end result is that heavy distortion + mid scoop + really f'ing hard attack = Godfleshy tone. Excellent.

I have a Boss Metal zone coming in as trade for something, and I'm about to get a damn ass Boss GEB-7.

I'm tired of Ampegs excuse for an EQ on the BA115SP.
