Going Direct?

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a GK700RBII. Does the XLR out work to go direct to the board? I typically play with a couple of cabs but need to go direct for a live recording. Would you have to use some type of direct box with the outs? I know nothing about recording. I am willing to purchase something different if needed. VT deluxe, sansamp, etc. Any input is appreciated.

As long as you dig the sound of the DI on your head, you should be good to go. Nothing particularly special about a DI box (generally speaking).

yep, it's just a built in DI box. Make sure you check out a block diagram (should be in the manual, which is probably available online as a pdf) to see where the DI is in the signal path. Especially if there is a pre/post button.

EDIT** goggled it for you, scroll down to page 12.

note that in "pre" mode the -10db pad is in the signal path as well as the DI level knob and ground lift. "Post" mode adds the EQ, fx loop, boost, and the woofer-high out switch.

The 700RBII has the signal path printed on the back of the amp, I'm pretty sure (haven't looked at mine in a while).

That DI is great due to the multi-functionality mentioned above (ground lift, level control, pre/post switch). My advice is to leave the switch in Pre if you have a soundman who knows what he's doing, he'll appreciate it!
