Good luck...
Kmart sells a $29 delay.

Some Danelectro stuff is on the cheap.

Do you have a tuner?

All I can say is that there are a bunch of dudes on here who use B pedals.
It really depends on how you treat your pedals.

First off welcome to the world of TalkBass...

As for the pedal question I would recommend the Behringer BDI21 as well as any of the Ibanez Tone Lok bass series...

Oh and careful with the B-word around here, it tends to make some folks uneasy...

when's the gig? if you have time to wait for online payment negotiation and shipping, hit the classifieds here - i picked up used a zoom B2 (not the best, but certainly decent) for $30 shipped, and a used EHX big muff for i think $40-50 shipped.

another place to look is pawn shops - sometimes way overpriced, sometimes you can catch a deal. i found a boss tu-2 for $15 and made quite the profit!

Used Boss BF-2 Flanger. It rules for bass.

The BF-2's are nice on bass, but...

basstotheface- did you buy a solid state or tube amp- ie does it take care of your overdrive needs? Im guessing it doesn't since you say the bdi21 looks like the right pedal. If you're looking for a new pedal under $50 and you don't already have an overdriven tone and/or DI from your amp, then the bdi21 is probably a great choice. The behringer stuff as you've noted isn't the made from the highest quality parts, but if you take care of your stuff it should be fine.

BEHRINGER effects aren't that bad...I've used them for a while with no issues. I don't know why people get so but hurt about others using them just because they aren't boutique pedals. They work fine...even if they are clones of other pedals. Behringer helped me get started in the world of effects and helped me figure out what pedals I wanted/needed for my musical tastes.

No one's mentioned ebay... I picked up a Boss CEB-3 for $30, Danelectro 18V Cool Cat for $28, an Ashdown Bass Envelope for $50 and (quite a while back) a Digitech BP-8 multi-fx for $85.

I've never had much luck at pawn shops, I don't have the luck to find the needle in the haystack. lol

Sears!

they sell Behringer shtuff(and state they'll beat anybodies price by 10%) my oldest girl is a clothing manager at one,i havent `worked the house' yet to see what kind of deals i can get(but eventually i will)

the pawn shops(around here) usually price their stuff at new prices,,offer them half,,if they choke then go up a bit and walk away after that

plus hit GC and peruse the `used',havent bought a pedal that way yet but did recently notice a couple long deals at the local store online,,like the pawn shop ya have to be there before someone else

i WILL own a pile of `botiuqe' pedals(some day) as a beefy metal box HAS to outlast the `B' plastic and certainly the quality of the components comes into play, yadayadyada (this is the dis-claimer),go cheap, stack em up,then figure out what you really want and go on

one time at the bottom of a well known AUCTION site

it had several companies,Sears being one that sold `B',i clicked on it but it was 6 months ago and seemed like they did not list a LOT of pedals,in fact i've never actually checked into it to see what all could be purchased thru them but if there's a Sears store~somewhere~ that has`B' effects pedals(or a wharehouse),,

Zoom B1 stomp box........lots and lots of effects (most of which you won't use), but built pretty tough. Once you learn how to program it, it's a kick to use, and can give you a whole bunch of different sound, all for around 50$ or 60$ dollars.
