Looking for a good cheap chorus/flange to round out my fretless sound with, and to add to slap tones.
Think early Police, and Kajagoogoo like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3P6I4pT_tVA
It doesn't have to be $5 cheap, just cost effective vs $125.
It won't get used lots, I don't want "invest," just purchase, ya know?
Thanks from a completely effectless guy...

I, personally have both a Chorus and a Flanger on my board...and I use them for completely different things. You could probably pick up a used pedal on either TB or ebay pretty cheap. |

It produces both effects in parallel and blends them together. You can always dial one down to zero if you only want one effect or the other, and they share a common rate. It's a simple, but very cool-sounding pedal, IMO. Plus, it even sounds nice and warm on mild settings, if you're not into the extreme stuff. I've never tried it on a fretless, but it sounds great with my sloppy slap playing.
I've always been more of a fingerstyle / pickstyle bassist anyway.
The EBS Unichorus can do some nice warm chorus sounds, as well as some mild flanging sounds and pitch modulation tones. It can only do one of the three at a time, however. Not my top pick for these sounds.
A used Boss BF-2 and Boss CE-5 would be a great-sounding and inexpensive pair of pedals for these sounds, if you'd prefer to keep them separate.

It's incredibly warm sounding and you can dial in the right blend of direct and chorused signal. Simple, easy to operate. I've used the older version CE-2B for 20 years and still love it! It's definitely do the "Walkin' On The Moon", "A Remark You Made", or Marcus style slap chorusing. |

It goes from lush and warm to metallic and cutting. They go for around $50 or less on the used market. I haven't tried it yet, but the same has been said about the Rocktron Deep Blue as well. Good luck with your search.

But you are more then welcome to borrow/try what I do have. Which is not very much right now. I have no flangers and the chorus(es?) that I do have are a Pitch Pirate (which is going to be far too extreme) and a Analogman Mini w/Deep Mod (a bit expensive). |

For flange, the Maxon FL-01 is next best bet to a Choral Flange for me. Figure $75 to $100 used.
For Chorus, I use a Visual Sound H20 which is a 2 pedals in one box Chorus / Echo. That one spends time in my guitar rig more than in my bass rig though. Again not the least expensive solution around. Makes a killer rock'a billy slap guitar echo with my Tele. Nice thick chorus...
The old ART Phat boy MEP might be intersting. Preset's are well thought out. depth is controlled through a wet/dry knob. It's got some other intersting features as well. $50 to $75 in the used market and built like a tank.
