today jojo and i went and bought a moog mp201. i felt like i needed even more modular synth capabilities, and we were listening to a bunch of dubstep, and decided we needed to see what this thing is all about...
buuuut... i need more CV controlled pedals.... i want a high pass filter, so i can do things like sweep a HPF with the expression pedal while an LFO (tap tempo'd, of course) is modulating my moog LPF, and still another could be sweeping the harmonic generation on the CopilotFX ORbit...
i have pretty mental plans, and want to find a killing HPF.
and I want it cheap!!!

Resonator is about the best I can find. The Subdecay is a current production filter than can be a fixed hpf, but doesn't have CV. You've also got the Squarewave Parade MoleS20 which may do it for you (not quite perfect, I think) |

I'll check out the Squarewave Parade one... I think the guitarist in Phonograph has one... might have to borrow it.

i don't think i will be as comfortable abusing it as my old EMU expression pedal, but it has so many great options... it is pretty deep. i'm going to spend a few hours today experimenting with it and learning how to program it.

I was ready to pull the trigger on the cp251, tap tempo, and a couple more exp pedals until the mp201 came out. Price wise it would be about the same, it would actually save some space and the midi/cv functionality is very appealing. |

SWEET!
i'll have some results later today... gonna do some sonic r&d.

i'm gonna borrow a few different ones and see what floats my boat.

It woudl be small enough to just sit right beside your baord, and you could either put in in a TB loop, or get some blank panels to build in bypass switches. It would be really easy to wire that up.
Remind me, do you have any non-9V pedals? If you already have a powerstrip on your board, then I think the mincase makes the most sense for you. If no, and you're just doing a simple 9V daisy-chain at present, then it's a real PITA to power. |

but for me pedals just kinda do it... i need to be as self contained as possible, since i fly for most of my gigs and don't want to fly with a modular rack AND my pedal board.... believe you me, i have DEFINITELY contemplated going that route, but at this time it isn't the right direction for me, mostly because the build quality of most modular stuff doesn't seem like it would stand up to the abuse i would throw at it, even though the sonic potential is captivating.
we'll see... never say never.

I hate to be one of these dudes who is like "yo, you need to use what I use," but have you ever seend/heard of/tried the MAM Warp 9? It's basically a clone of the VCF and VCA section of the old EDP WASP, except while the signal path is analog, the control pathways are digital, so there's A MILLION modulation routing options and 32 presets. It has LP/BP/HP/Notch, trigger input, ASDR envelope, an LFO with more shapes than any actual analog synth I've ever seen, and it sounds brilliant.
The catch is that it's a rack unit. BUT, it's such a shallow rack unit, than you can fit it on a pedalboard, if you are creative. I did. It's only 2 inches deep. Anyway, the HP sound is completely awesome, and you could control it via MIDI from your MP201.
Just throwing it out there. |

maybe we can all just hang at whoever has the best spot to chill and try out everyone's crazy stuff?
i can maybe host it at my studio, schedule permitting....

john | I keep thinking about ditching the CP251 for one of those... I'd be interested to hear what you think when you've played around with it for a while.
(sorry, no crazy suggestions for a good, cheap, small highpass filter.) |

it was definitely inspiring, and i've already discovered some new textures.
now for that HPF....
