Good Multi Effects Pedal

Sign in to disble this ad
I know that this topic is very annoying and repetitive. But Everyone has been asking about cheap M.E pedals. I'm willing to spend up to 500$. Anyone got suggestions ???

Thanks

I'm quite happy with my Zoom B2. The B2.1 is has an expression pedal, DI, and USB for an extra $50 or so. It really depends what you want as far as modeling, switching etc. I like some of the Zoom's amp models, it's quite compact, and has less noise than other multi's I've tried. You could do a search and read for days about many options.

They're all probably going to be coming down shortly. Its about time for them to release a new version soon. Korg already lowered its comparable unit's price for the same reason. Its just getting old. Its a really good price though.

If you have $500 to spend you should also check out Line 6 (can't remember what their top of the line unit is, XD Live?). Its got better modeling if that's your thing. The effects are arguably not as good, but its computer editable which is a big plus for many people.

I've been playing for 2 years now, and I haven't had the chance to get into FX. I just wanna experiment see which ones I'm gonna use in the future. Not recording or playing live yet . Just use for jamming and "fooling" around.

Cheap, has some decent effects, and if you don't like it you can always return it. Get an extended warranty, that way you can return it anywhere down the line.

I'd suggest getting something cheap to start out with first just to see which effects types you like/dislike. Chances are you won't use nearly all of the effects offered by a unit like the Boss, but...

The Boss' price is not that much more than a "cheap" effects unit, you'll get a lot of bang for the buck with it and you shouldn't have to upgrade to "really" good individual effects any time soon.

You could also look at the Korg AX3000b. Its $195 and does some things better than the Boss (IMO of course). The Zoom B2.1 is a good unit as well, but for approx. $200 new I think either the Korg or Boss would be a better deal.

I have the Boss GT-6B. It's a nice piece of equipment, but I want to sell it so I can get some other goodies. It's a shame it only sells for $75 back to stores... I don't feel like dealing with Ebay.

I personally stay away from bass pods, try not be even in a same room with them.

As far as other brand multieffects goes, The only one I kept is Digitech Bp-8. If I remember correctly, they first came up with it at early 90s and it is discountinued around 2000s, to promote new crappy digitech RP series and GNX series (less crappy, but still). The preamp section is completely analog (tube actually) as well as the compressor, noise gate and EQ sections.

Digital effects are pretty much usable, offers limited versatility (techology is called S-DISC II or something like that. Basicly, if you engage one effect, then the signal processor S-DISC is utilized fully and honestly will give you almost similiar results to a very expensive studio grade effect. When you dial in more, the processor starts sharing its capabilities, hence less parameters and performance) as opposed to GT6 per say.

I still use some of its features exclusively, especially for the reverb (when I am not using Trueverb) and compressor (when I am not using opto).

You can find occasionally at eBay for around 150 bucks. The most important thing to keep in mind, purchase the unit with the power supply. No other power supply will work with this unit (1300mA, AC, terminates with 6 pin AC socket). Other than that, foot pedals go bad over the time because of the rubber stuff inside. Just need to put a thin layer of a rubber material between tactile switch and foot pedal to thicken the worn out pad.

EDIT: 1- Digitech preset makers, whatever that means, are the worst musicians and worst tone tweakers ever. When you get the pedal, completely ignore the factory presets. Try to dial out for own settings, which is a little harder compared to other multi-FX pedals
2- All zoom effects sounds digital and "tired", hence less musical and alive; IMHO.
