A good OD pedal...

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey all,

I'm looking for a good, natural sounding OD pedal to run. I have a Boss ODB-3 and a Sansamp Bass Driver, neither of which particularly appeal to my senses. I'm looking at the HAO Rust Ride Bass OD and The MXR Blowtorch. Any suggestions? Is there possibly a sweet guitar OD that I could have modded to take the bass? Anything would be awesome. Thanks guys!

I've got the Blowtorch and it's really more of a fuzz than OD. I had the Rust Ride but kept it less than a week because it was too limited. It sounded awesome, but unfortunately it only had one tone, and that was it. I can get pretty much the same tone from my Bass Drive.

My favorites, in descending order are my Hjärt Müller and Polish Loves dead tied for first, then the Bass Drive and the Boss HM-2.

Where can one purchase the Hjärt Müller pedal? I checked out what appears to be their main website, mostly in German, I like the sound of the pedal a lot, but it appears they are sold out there, any suggestions? Thanks man!

Swedish, actually....Try sending an email to info [at] moodysounds.com. They're a new product, pretty scarce. When I bought mine last month there were only ten of them in existence.

I sent them an e-mail, I'll let you know what I hear. Thanks a lot for the pedal suggestion! I'm really digging the tone I heard in the video.

That Hjärt Müller is looking very interesting. Can't say the same about the price though.

I found one that was sold on e-bay for around $120 US, if thats similar to the MSRP, then that's not too bad.

Lists at 163 Euro for the premade version, 66 Euro for the kit. If you can pick up one at $120US, it'd be a good buy. I was bidding on the one that sold at just above $120. Missed out by a couple of dollars..

That sucks, any idea about where I can get the kit? I have a relative who is very proficient with musical electronics, so this wouldn't be an issue whatsoever.

Might i suggest the Voodoo Labs Sparkle Drive? $129.99

This is an overdrive pedal based on the vintage TS808 format, it includes the original JRC4558 opamp, but has been modded with metal resistors and polyester capacitors which creates a tighter midrange, a crsiper high, and overall IMHO a far better capacity for note definition than the original 808, or the re-issue. They have also added a clean boost channel which allows you to blend the clean signal with the overdrive circut. This allows you to boost the direct clean signal which in turn restores the attack and feel which is usually lost in most pedals when the signal is compressed in the ovedrive circut. Also it's like running two amps one saturated and one clean. The boost claims to be a 20db boost, i have not measured this claim but i can tell you you notice a huge difference when its on and when its not...lol

Since i bought mine i haven't looked back!

Probably straight from the guy. You can try emailing him. Else, you can wait until one pops up on eBay again.

It's a great pedal, really warm and bassy sounding. Combined with the Polish Love It's OD heaven....

You should check out 40Hz_of_love's thread for clips of the Polish Love. It's another nice sounding pedal.

After 2 years I still enjoy the fulltone bassdrive....
... I'm intrigued by the voodoo labs bass drive though bass though- I'm of the opinion that they're both essentially bass modded clones of an early tube screamer though. some folks seem to love the dod 250- there's a dozen others you'll find people raving aboout on here- try everything you can for as long as you can- record them in the store if you can't take them home and give them a listen. Good luck!

The Voodoo Labs pedal is a modified Tube screamer Pedal (TS808) (see my post above)
