PS: EHX's Steel Leather purports to do what you're after. http://www.theperfectbass.com/Electr...el-Leather.htm

To really make pick playing pop out, I just turn the treble down on my bass and boost the bass a little and play a bit harder. A light overdrive (to mimic natural overdrive of a tube amp) might also help
What gear are you using?

I personally like boosting a little higher than that, usually around 1K. I don't use a pick but have a fairly percussive finger attack.

| | | | I would say bright strings, play near the bridge, maybe a light over drive, like a vt bass. Eq pedal set with an upside down smiley.just mess around a bit with an eq pedal.
Btw, dont get the boss odb3. Its fizzy, and not gritty

That or drop some coin (and sore back muscles) on a Tube amp. |

No effect can replicate that.
But maybe it's not what you're after.
