Good rackable noise suppressors?

Sign in to disble this ad
In doing a search here, I have found opinions varying from noise suppressors being great to being useless. The truth may be between, but I am wondering if anyone uses a noise suppressor that can be rack mounted with a rig (i.e. not a pedal) and what the thoughts are on the best noise suppressors for bass. Thanks!

do you mean noise gate? Because many of the rack mounted compressors also have built in noise gates.

Why do you want a rackmounted noise suppressor? Is your head/preamp unusually noisy? Most noise will be introduced from your pickups and electronics or your pedalboard (if you have one). Either way, a pedal would work fine, and almost certainly be less expensive. I use a Boss NS-2, and it works perfectly for me.

As for rackable noise killers, the ISP Noise Decimator will be your best choice if you can swing for it. Otherwise, Rocktron makes a couple of rackable Hush units.

All the high gain metal guys I know swear by the ISP Decimator whether it be in rack or pedal form.
