Maybe you can tell us what you mean (specifically) by 'sustain'? And what's your budget, and have you searched yet?

Not really: I'm acting on a recommendation that I find a good sustain pedal, so this is step one!

What I'm looking for is something that makes the bass hold its' note for ages.

I'm new to effects: haven't really had anything to do with them before. Maybe a wah pedal would be what I'm looking for?

No idea. That's why I'm on here asking.

If you don't know what it does, you don't need one...

However... Have a look at distortion/overdrives and/or compressors. Again, if you're not sure if you need one, you probably don't!
