Got a Boss FZ-2 today

Not quite sure how I feel about it yet, but Ive only played it for about 30 minutes. Thought it was rare enough to give you guys a heads up on how I feel about it so far.

Its has level, treble/bass boost and cut, gain, and three different modes. Fuzz I, Fuzz II, and Gain Boost.

The level control makes this thing go freaking crazy! I mean epic, uncontrolable loudness levels. The treble and bass tone knobs have an enormous sweep to them making this fairly ideal for bass. Youre not going to get any dry signal with this baby, but you will be able to keep a fair amount of low end. It can get down right boomy and clanky though if youre not careful.

Fuzz I is probably what most bass players would use for the fuzz effect. Its fairly old school sounding with a lot of grind to it, and with the bass boosted up to about 2-3 oclock and the treble set back to 9 oclock or so, is where it has really sounded good to me so far.

I wont comment on Fuzz II so much because I havent messed with it too much, but it is very brittle sonding. Almost no low end, and just brittle. Ill add more to this as I play with the pedal some more.

And now to the Gain Boost mode. This, ladies and gentlemen, I like a lot. I didnt think I would want this pedal for the boost, but for the fuzz, but man, this daddy is a great little boost pedal. The level gets way out of hand here, but the bass/treble sweeps and gain knobs are very effective in creating a wonderful boosted tone. Me likey very much.

Anyways, like I said this is with about 30 minutes of playing with it under my belt so take it all with a grain of salt. As I mess with it some more, Ill update as needed.

I've been wanting to try an FZ-2 for a while. They sound pretty awesome, I heard some clips a while ago but can't remember where. Let me know if you're letting go of it .

Looking forward to hearing more about it...

Best thing about the FZ-2 (got mine last month here in Japan) is the boost capability. Running into a tube pre, pumping up the bass, rolling off a little treble...

It's the best way to get a unique (preamp)tubescreamer with loads of control which is all your own amp's flavour - in my case a Peavey VB-2.

As for the fuzz, it is what it is - total sonic meltdown! Not classic, but certainly noisy and unique!

I used a FZ-2 in the boost mode for a long time with guitar into my old blackface bassman.

I am a big fan of the synthy quality of the Fuzz I mode for bass too.
Also note that while the FZ-2 is long discontinued and getting more and more rare, Behringer makes a clone which can be had new for like $30 if you just want a taste.

I love mine! Also, Fuzz 2 with the bass cranked is nowhere near brittle imo, I use that with bass at full, treble at 2 o'clock, and gain at full. Level set to taste

just putting this out there: how about we retire the word "blackface" in describing fender amps... or in any context, really.

Why? It's referring to the colour of the face plate. I can't see how that would be offensive to anyone. It'd be like banning the colour black.

Why? It makes all the sense it needs to.

Are you offended or implying that it's a racial thing?

Brad - Start a petition somewhere else, but don't start making up rules on a forum...www.farwellfenderblackface.com and www.nomoreblackface.com are open if you want to buy the webspace.
This thread needs to get back on topic, people.

Holy War - since the guy from Orgy uses an FZ-2, does it make you want to ditch yours?
I'm interested in clips from you!
