Gotta Moog Bass MuRF,...what next.

The postman brang it to meh door about an hour ago and the 105B is everything I thought it would be and then some. I've been messing with it ever since and I know it's a honeymoon thing but this is a very inspiring piece of gear. Messing with the patterns mix and envelope so far I'm digging on patterns 6-10 and especially 10.

I knew there would be a bit of a learning curve but I've taken to it pretty quick and am feeling really creative with the pedal. I can already envision where this pedal can get a lot of use in a band setting,...especially while comping and improvising. I'll be going into the studio with a friend at the end of December as well and look forward to bringing the MuRF with me.

I'm inclined to go the route scotch went and get expression pedals and footswitches to get the most out of this guy. I can see that they are worth it and I want the full compliment,...almost a clone of scotch's "MuRFBoard" (I get it,...surfboard,...eh) but I want to figure out where it fits in the grand scheme of my current FX and am calling on TB murf gurus for ideas.

So here is my signal chain for the moment,...TU-2-->OC-2-->SD-2 (which is the Boss Dual Overdrive)-->3Leaf GR-->EA Supercollider-->442 Red-->MuRF.

Incoming is a Boss LS-2 from jufros. I'm not opposed to getting different flavas of fuzz on my board.

So far I love the way this guy sounds with my fuzz and it's a good compliment to the octaver,...not sure about the envelope filters. I'm sure the most common answer is experiment, but where would you put this pedal in relation to the other pedals in the signal chain. I'm inclined to leave it at the end of the chain. Lastly,...is it even worth it to try it with other envelope filters?

Any insight or general discussion would be fun.

So I figured out that if I turn all the gain pedals and the OC-2 on and mute the TU-2 I can put my bass down and still get a signal through to the MuRF to sequence. Everytime the Tuner tracks something it gives the signal/pattern a little nudge,...cool.

I'm starting to find a spot for the other envelope filters,...it's just about the experimenting and knob fiddlin,...

You're ultimately gonna want to 'true bypass' this sucker! In the wrong environment, it can wreak havoc (allright, mild havoc!) on your 'clean' tone.

In a perfect world, I would spring for the Moog MP-201 to control all of the cv functions (I'll break down and shell out the $$$ eventually!).

Make sure you try it out with either/both reverb and delay after the MURF for some killer textures!

Also, the MURF can be 'synced' to other audio sources (click track, kick drum, etc...) connected to the "tap/step/ input via standard 1/4" mono cabling. The signal just needs to be very hot (enough to equal a volt or so). I've done this a bunch using a send from protools & it makes rhythmic syncing super-easy and accurate!

Great tips. Is that silver foot switch on your murfboard a TBP switch? I've heard that there is a TBP mod out there as well.

This will probably be a learning experience for the producer when I get into the studio as well. I'll make sure to point out to him.

Yup, one loop for the MURF, one for the reverb.

I added a Proel expression pedal. I think it is a Bespeco with a different name,...looks similar and is made in Italy. At any rate I tried it to control the envelope which is cool but where it really shines is in adjusting the LFO "sweep", an adjustment for which there is no knob on the 105B. In pattern 1 bank B it's just straight LFO with no sequencing. I went through the sweep and about halfway through,...there it was. That dub wobble I've always heard. The LFO sweep also produces some chorus like sounds in the sequenced patterns that it really cool as well.

I got the pedal used for 15 bucks and it has really opened up the MuRF. Now I need a tap tempo switch.
