In the on-going quest for distortion that is aggressive, cool as heck, yet allows clarity of notes, I have been thru many pedals over the last 30 years and always ending with "ahhh, not really what I want....keep looking).
Much to my surprise last week in a music store I tried playing thru a Digitech Grunge sitting there on sale (the pedal is for metal g------ts BTW). Man oh man--instantly bought it, can't get off it! I understand this is IMHO but for me I just say Holy Crap!! And got it for $40 too! Anyone else discover their own magic pedal or use a Grunge? |

He had more distortion than me! It sounded cool, as I remember, but that was probably 14 years ago... |

Really, I got no usable tones out of it. I felt it lacked low end, and I was never able to cut through the mix with it.
Just my $0.02, YMMV.

The pedal is for metal guitar but I am really liking it for my bass. Tho not the best recording, they came out pretty good to show the clarity vs distortion of this pedal. I had the Grunge set at 50% Grunge with Low and High both at between 10-11 o'clock positions and LOUD was sent at 7 o'clock. Am playing a Langcaster bass thru a Laney RB9 head into a Laney 4x10 cab. EQ was fairly flat. The 3 songs up thru this pedal were specifically played as they were, expressly FOR the distortion, grooving was not the intent...thats on other songs. So, I have them on my Soundclick page at the following url.
My 3 bass songs with this pedal will be "One Way Through" (my favorite and most fun to play), "Double A" and "Nightclub Hero". The others are with different effects other than the Grunge. http://www.soundclick.com/bands/defa...&content=music |

Great crunch, only it does suck out the bass in your signal, so I recommend an EQ pedal or a second amp to run dirty with it (or both). Another option is a Marshall Guv'nor. Very versatile, I use one for slight overdrive, but it can deliver plenty of distortion (almost up to a fuzz pedal) and has a built in 3-band eq. |
