never used it a whole lot before. maybe once in a great while. but since incorporating more overdrive into my repertoire, i've found it really comes in handy.
it's called a "bass control knob." i've always believed knobs were those things on your bass that you turned all the way up unless you were between sets. but it turns out they're actually good things and have a lot of uses, and they can be lifesavers if you get too nasty a tone and can't get to your pedals to change your tone "properly."
having a lot of fun with changing tones directly on the bass, and blending pickups at different volumes, too. getting some very cool variations in tones these days by doing that.
just thought i'd mention the knobs since it seems a lot of us have some sort of phobia about using them. i'm trying to break old conventions more and more these days, and i must say i'm having more fun than i ever have and getting some great sounds i never knew i could get.

I've found pushing my bass as loud as possible and then turning the volume to a reasonable level on my overdrive makes the pedal act so different it's insane.
Turn the gain up all the way and I've got a sputtery fuzzy doom metal sound.
Totally cool.

Honestly though, I've been getting more and more into using the preamp on my bass instead of having to turn around and mess with the settings on my amp. Now I have the amp dialed in for my standard tone, and use the bass preamp (I stuck a Glockenklang pre into my SR5... I know, blasphemy right?) to change the tone to my liking. |
