Green Russian Big Muff vs. The Black Reissue

Sign in to disble this ad
i have searched already, and have found useful info. however, i couldn't find much detailed info on the differences between the two pedals, if there really are any. is it worth the trouble to get the green one, or is the black reissue more or less the same?

Yes and no.
I have a green one and have tried a few blacks.
Yes they sound different, they are as different as the black sovtek from the US reissue. Is a green one worth the price, I don't know really, when I got mine it was like $65 - 69 new, now there are going for like $150 -200. I'm not tempted to sell mine at all but I wouldn't pay that much for one either, there are better muff - type fuzzes out there. Also the black is not a reissue of the green just the next variation. And there for you most likely could swap out a few parts in a black to get green or other muff variations look. Hope this helps.

i do believe that with either one of these russian versions you CANNOT use a power adapter just a battery....also i have found that the russian versions are quite a bit more tinny sounding than the NYC version (which you can use a power adapter on) hope that helps...

I'd go for the blue one.

I own a NY reissue muff, and cant for the life of me get any sound out of it that is usable. I know its famous, but on bass, I just cant find a use! I own a Ibanez Phat Hed (PD-7) pedal which is not my ideal sound as it sounds kind of thin, but it is very usable.

I have a russian Black box one. I can use the pedal. There are atons of tones. I also just bought a GGG version, as I am going to put one in my bass, and the actual muffs curcuit board was a little big.

I can say, the green is the ONE to have, but the black reissue is close (if you want to call it that). If you can get a green one, go for it, otherwise, the only difference I have found in tone, is so small, you only think you hear a difference...

I had a black one a few years back and hated it. There seemed to be no bass in it whatsoever, even with the tone all the way down. Got a green one last month and absolutely adore it. Best sounding distortion and fuzz I have ever heard. Just IMO

Just clarifying, you can use a power supply with either if you have a 9v battery clip (from, say, the OneSpot or Powerall).

That's how I power mine.

Which is just the GGG Tuned BMP. I just finish building one yesterday, smokes my green sovtek, much fuzzier, grittier and not as much mid loss.

So, um, yes, Arrgh indeed.
