Question Group buy

Sign in to disble this ad
Did a search in the effect section and didn't see any threads in the archives regarding group buys.

Are there any vendors/resellers who facilitate group buys for musical equipment and in this case, effects pedals?

Two pedals coming out that I'd be interested joining a group buy would be for either the new Chunk Systems Octavius Squeezer pedal or the new version of the Electro-Harmonix Micro Bass Synth pedal.

Just pay the price. It's going to be more hassle to organize something than the small discount you may get.

I've participated in a couple of group buys at eSoundz. Unfortunately they only sell software (DAWs, samples, vst plugins) and not hardware (instruments & effects). The group buy concept does work and works quite well. It's got to be a distributor/vendor that organizes and administers the group buy.

If it were an individual person trying to organize one, then yeah I'd have to agree with you 100%. No way I'd even think about doing it that way.

See that's exactly it. It's not that group buys "can't work", it's that they can only work when a manufacturer and a vendor organize a planned marketing effort between them. Even then it only works if the manufacturer and the specific vendor have a semi-exclusive partnership, as otherwise it alienates and angers the other vendors who lose out on a lot of business. The consumers are the final stage of the process, they are not the starting point.

Yes. The group-buys I've been involved with have solely been SW-audio products, seldom any need to ship anything, just sending a licensing key to the purchasers. And they deal with a brand-new product -- the idea is that the users will get hooked on it and purchase upgrades later, while talking about this brand new product on forums. As such, little in the bass world would fit into this marketing strategy. --Kent
