Grrr, brand new MXR M82 pedal owner is an idiot

Sign in to disble this ad
Sorry folks. In the light of day it was dodgy connection in the next pedal lead, which explains why pressing on the box was making it do it, duh.Just got a dud MXR envelope filter from pro seller on ebay. It grounds itself out somehow if not holding your jaw right when switching. If I press down lighty on the top of the box it does it too, gnarley, like a shorted input to the amp.

I could open it up and try to fix it or send it all the way back to USA.

Send it back. It's a drag, but at least you'll get your money back.

What's the deal with the shipping costs?

Man this gives me the evils. How hard is it to test these things before shipping them out of the factory, really.

Why did you have to buy it from the states? Are they not available in NZ?

I can imagine shipping to NZ ( or from) is ridiculous.

Maybe you can get an estimate from a local tech to fix the problem and compare that to what it will cost you in shipping? Or maybe contact Dunlop personally and complain, maybe they'll make it right. It isn't fair for you to have to pay shipping more than once for their mistake. You never know, I've had good experiences with Dunlop customer service so...

Ok, I sent a message to seller requesting a replacement and I'll pop this one in post back to him tomorrow. See what he says.

I've read about other people's ebay and paypal disputes without really taking in too much detail. What should I do to cover myself? Do I need to take out a dispute straight off or give it time to resolve? I definitely want the pedal, it's the shiznitz.

I expect he would do the right thing but the details on the auction says 7 days right of return, for faulty items only, which is a bollox as it takes longer than that to get here.

the old postage is cheaper than paying ripoff NZ merchant prices.

Let things work out. You took a chance paying for shipping to pay a lower price. One of the downsides is that you may have to eat that shipping if there's a problem. You're dealing in the gray market and while it's not illegal, you're bypassing the sales agreements that are in place for distributors. So I wouldn't expect MXR to help out in this case.

I would have snaffled one in TB classifieds but nobody was selling that week. For the price the monopoly NZ official dealer charges for them I could almost buy two.

Buying a brand new thing you'd expect it to work. Actually, I use this arguement on myself when buying used stuff " at least you know it definitely was working ".

Yeah, but I'm thankful I'm not that guy very often. I'd be breaking stuff left and right.

See OP.

Goes extra funky on EUB, probably same on fretless. Very organic and responds controllably.

Hell Ya! Can you say that on TB???

Normally I'm not very forward in the mix but it's really going to put me in the front of the picture so to speak. It lights up the highs with funky goodness, back off with the attack and it settles right down, give it some mwah and hey presto, mondo funkification.
