GT-10B v Sansamp VT Bass

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello, been lurking for 8 month (as long as I've been playing).

A quick (and hopefully not too stupid question). I have a GT-10B and mainly use the amp modelling to try and achieve a more vintage, tubey tone going into my super clean Phil Jones Suitcase.

Considering my needs, would something like a Sansamp VT Bass Deluxe give me anything (tone wise) that the GT-10B can't?

I just feel that I have this huge box of tricks and I'm not using it, so I'm thinking of consolidating into a simpler package!

Cheers

You're comparing two different things. I have the gt6b and a vt bass deluxe. I assume the 10b is an upgrade with more modern features. Although, the 6b has some amp modeling its not in the same ballpark as the vt deluxe which will make ANY amp sound like an SVT. Period. The vt deluxe does a clean fliptop-overdriven SVT- heavy distortion approaching fuzz tones, and the boss is a stompbox modeler.

The 10B has several amp sims including Ampeg B-15, Bassman 100, SVT, TE AH600SMX, SWR SM-400. Plus a few other preamp tones.

As I use these (and mainly the SVT sim) rather than the myriad effects this box offers, my question is, would the VT Bass Deluxe give me better tone than the Boss unit. I s'pose its a digital v analog thing at the end of the day.

I would rather keep things simple!

Sorry if I wasn't clear in my first post.

All I can say is, the vt bass makes a 15 watt guitar amp , a 40 year old 65w kustom tuck n roll and a 600 watt mesa sound like an SVT. At different volumes mind you.

I set it for clean, od and full distortion in 1-3, and 4-6 are identical(kinda) with the effects loop engaged.

I haven't used the sansamp, but it only really models Ampegs - so you'll be ok for the B-15 and SVT, but you won't be able to get the Trace and SWR tones.

Does anyone have both VT and 10B? Would be really interested in your thoughts.

Yes I have both. For me the VT is a much more realistic Ampeg sim for that "bright switch in" clanky, grindy Ampeg tone. The GT-10 sounds good and has much more flexibility in that you have pretty much all the SVT controls available to you, so, for example, you can have the bright switch in or out (same applies to each of their amp sims - you get all the tone controls available on that particular amp) - but for my application and with my equipment its much easier to get a great Ampeg sound with the VT.

My recommendation would be to pick up a used VT in the TB classifieds and try it out for yourself to see which you like better. If you end up not liking the VT you can likely flip it for what you bought it for.

Thanks so much for that, it's really appreciated. I'll do just that and see how it sounds through my amp.
