Guitar effect pedals for bass?

Sign in to disble this ad
I don't own a single bass effect pedal, but I do have a number of guitar effect pedals. So tonight just for the hell of it I tried running my bass through the pedals on my guitar pedalboard. And guess what? I like it!! It's a compressor>OD>delay>distortion>chorus>EQ setup. Works like a charm, but the EQ is made for guitars. A bass EQ would probably be better. Everything else seems to work great. Just saved myself some dinero on pedals this way!

99% of pedals used by bassists are "guitar effects". As noted in the FAQ.

Only 50% of the pedals on my board are guitar pedals.

40% are bass pedals.

The last one isn't really marketed either way, but it seems that the vast majority of users are bass players.

Yes, there is some excellent information in the FAQs. Methinks I should avail myself of them!

Actually I hadn't thought about it in these terms but I do seem to have a (narrow) majority of bass-specific effects at the moment. And most of the ones that aren't bass-specific (Meatwad, OC-2, DOD 490) are probably more commonly associated with bassists.

I pleased myself tonight by hooking up a combination of three pedals that produced a thick throb that made the tuning of my bass completely irrelevant and actually produced NO SOUND AT ALL using an on-loan Charvel metal guitar. I think my pedal board is well trained!

I did the math:

13% of my On Tha Board pedals are bass-specific.
12% are modified to improve bass frequencies.
14% were not really meant to be used with stringed instruments.
63% are guitar pedals.

Please note that there is a 2% margin of error.
