Guitar Effects vs. Bass Effects

I am a bass player first, but I also play the guitar. So my question is, how much of a difference is there in a guitar effect pedal and bass effect pedal? ex... Wah and a Bass Wah, or a Chorus and a Bass Chorus? I guess I am sort of answering it myself as I am writing this as I just realized that it's usually only modulation type effects that have a "bass version". You don't see a bass delay or a bass reverb hmmm...

any thoughts???

the effect works the same essentially, they just have different components that filter out different frequencies. Many guitar effects will cut the low end out.

Watch out on most dirt pedals (overdrive, distortion, fuzz). There is usually a low end loss when playing bass through pedals like these that were 'made' for guitar. Luckily, we bassists have many good pedals made JUST for us!


Many other pedals in the modulation variety tend to be much more interchangeable between guitar and bass... delay, reverb, phase, tremolo, flange etc.


If you have questions about a single pedal, someone here has probably used it in the past and can give you an idea of how it will work on bass.
