Guitar fuzz effects through bass rig?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey all,

Just curiouse, has anyone ever used a guitar fuzz box for bass playing? I ask because i just went to my local music store and all the had was a guitar fuzz box. nothing that was "made" specifically for bass guitar. I know they make em however so i wasnt sure if there was a reason i shouldnt use the guitar ones. any input would be much appreciated, ya know....pro's and con's kind of thing. or is it based on personal preferance? Basically if its gunna hurt my amp head or speakers then i wont get it. but if its not gunna hurt anything it actually sounded kinda cool.

unfortunatly the guitar guy is younger than me and dosent know much more about this stuff than i do.

thanks in advance for any input.

Its fine.....just try it out before you buy it...to make sure its the sound you want and it retains your bottom end.
In fact on my current (in construction) board (that i will use for bass) i have 9 guitar pedals!

Many main stream fuzz boxes used by bass players are designed for guitar.

EHX Big Muff (Black Russian) is a guitar pedal, but bassist use it everywhere.

You will be fine in your choice as long as you like the sound.

balancing good dirty sound with low end is the only issue IMO. If you can't find one in your local store there are a ton of bass-specific ones worth checking out if you search through the forums here you'll find some good sound clips/opinions.

The only thing that makes bass pedals "bass" pedals is usually they have better low end response or have the ability to blend in your uneffected tone.

There's no such thing as bass specific pedals, just pedals that might sound better on bass.

Proof is in the pudding for guitar fuzz used on bass.

Some work really well: black russian muff, Barber Trifecta (super nice in the Tone Bender middle position), Swollen pickle, Alien Hate Fuzz and some voiced specifically for guitar chop all the bass frequencies and end up not sounding good.
