Does a lot of you guys use guitar distortion with your bass ???

I got a Boss Metal Core ML-2. With headphone , very good sound , but when I play without heandphone , it is more like a volume boost. Someone knows what I should do ?

What amp are you playing through? And is there anything else in your signal chain? Re: guitar pedals in general, yes, we use them all the time.

I'm a real newbie in the effects world.

I play through Yorkville BassMaster 200 at home. When I play with my band I play through Peavy Musician head and Peavy 4x12 cab.

Bass output > Pedal Input
Pedal output > Amp input.

Use the Dist knob on the pedal to control the amount of grittiness, use the Level knob to control the volume, EQ to taste.

Most of my pedals are designed for "guitar". Not my OD/Fuzz/Distortion pedals though.

I run a Ibanez Phat Head for distortion, and a MXR Bass Blowtorch for fuzz.

I tried out a Boss Metal Zone pedal (my guitarist was throwing it away) and it sounded like crap...absolutley no low end presence. But, maybe the metalcore pedal would work well for bass...let your ears be the judge. And don't limit yourself by testing out only "bass" specific pedals.

Maybe your volum is boosted. this may cause your earphones to distort and you like the sound, but are unable to achieve it with the normal cabs cos they can handle the power better. IMHO.

All my favorite Bass ODs/ Distortion pedals were originally made for use with guitars! (Everman FuzzDrive, Ibanez TS9, MI Audio BlueBoy, etc) Sometimes you might need to change a couple capacitors here and there, but sometimes they are great as they are. I've rarely been able to get a sound I really dig out of bass specific ODs or distortion pedals...

I tried the Metal Zone as well , I though it sounded good through the peavy.

Maybe you're right. I'll check that.
