Guitar wah used on bass?

Sign in to disble this ad
hi,
I'm thinking of getting a wah pedal but bass wah pedals are hard to come by from where I come from, so are guitar wah pedals suitable for bass?

I have the same question.

as long as I have understood, it will sound and work, sorta OK... just that the low-bass freq's will get kind of cutted out. if that is correct, I.DON'T.KNOW.

I am actually looking for a morley or a crybaby, both in the bass editions...

it will sound different if the frequencies are more q'd for guitar, I have the ibanez weeping demon which has a low and high switch, still sounds ok in the high mode but low can give super low bass when needed...

Honestly, I'd check the classifieds section on here before you go out and buy a wah pedal. There are tons of wah pedals that filter through there all the time. As for using a guitar pedal (any guitar pedal) on bass, the general consensus is that it will work fine in certain situations (intros, solo work, bass and drums, possibly backing solos in a 3-piece) but you will lose some low end frequencies as most (but not all) guitar effects are tailored to cut out low frequencies which guitar cabinets are not equipped to handle anyways (it can cause them to flub out, rattle, or even damage the speakers in some cases).

There are some internal modifications that can be made to guitar effects to make them work for bass, or the use of a blend loop (such as the Xotic X-Blender) can blend in your clean bass signal with the effected signal to keep some of the low end present (it's a cheaper alternative to having two amps, one clean, one with effects on it).

I used to have a Morley Wah, if you can find one, go with that, it's great. They work with both guitar and bass, I currently use a Dunlop bass Wah, it's okay, but definitely no Morley.

Check out some DIY stompbox type forums for any modifications that can be done to turn it from a guitar wah into a bass wah.

Because of price/exchange rate, or because of no international shipping?
I don't speak for everyone in the classifieds, but I have shipped things worldwide (including, but not limited to, parts of Asia) for very reasonable rates. It never hurts to ask.

There's a few cheapies on eBay at the moment. I was gonna get one, but I got a digitech bass synth wah and also the wah pedal on my digitech bp80 isn't too bad either.

although ibanez does one that switches between guitar and bass, and the behringer hellbabe does too. I
am still thinking of getting one anyway.

I'm using a reissue Ibanez WH10 which has a guitar/bass mode switch.

On the guitar mode the low end are completely cut off in opposite to the bass mode.
