Guv'Nor or Phat Head?

Sign in to disble this ad
I recently bought an Ibanex Phat Head and the pedal kicks ass. I've been looking for a mild overdrive that gave me a Tim Commerford-ish sound. But before i bought it, i was looking at the Marshal Guv'nor, which also kicked ass. Do you think i made the right choice going with the Ibanex?

I've owned both pedals, but with a few years in between....
My general feeling was that the Phat Head was more "modern" sounding than the Guvnor (in my case a Guvnor2).

Without knowing what bass and amp you have its hard to say which will sound more like Tim, but I've heard that he used to use an original Guvnor so maybe it would, but he also ran a multi amp setup...

hmmm... a Timmy C thread in disguise...

Anyhoo, yep, he used a Guvnor back in the day, so id say it would have been the go.

Yes, but try find the old one (i.e. NOT the GV-2...totally different vibe)

I've read about every Commerford thread there is in this forum and i've realized that it's impossible to completely emulate his tone, but i wanted to give you guys an idea of what was going on.

Regardless, ive chosen to stick with the ibanez. It has a pretty deadly sound to it and would recommend it to all.

P.S to the fine sir who was asking what my set-up was, I play a MusicMan Sterling into a GK 800RB through the RBH 410 + 115

I've had both. Did not care for the Ibanez at all, plus the thing died after a few months. I like the Marshall pedal a lot.
