Guyatone BL-2 as compressor?

Sign in to disble this ad
i initially bought the BL-2 to limit the harsh peaks roaring from my EHX bass micro synth and depth charge fuzz. i had the unit after these effects in my chain but didn't like the way it neutered the effects, especially the fuzz. i now have it first in my chain before a barge concept VFB-2 loop switcher containing all my effects. i have the volume set to about 3:00 and the threshold almost maxed. my intention is to have my notes be almost the same volume no matter how hard i mash the strings. i play pretty aggressively and a bit sloppy, flailing, etc, hah. this setting sounds good, but does add some grit and boosts the signal, which is OK i suppose. the small size of the pedal is definitely a plus on my cramped board. what benefits would there be to ditching this pedal in favor of a true compressor? i have some rack space and was thinking of the BBE unit. i'm playing a stingray 4 through an svt classic.

A limiter is better than a compressor for this use. I guess keeping it is ok.
The ST-2 is a compressor and squashes your tone even more. Same size of course.

good to know, it'll stay then. small enough it doesn't crowd my board too much.

Here's a little test clip with the Guyatone ST-2.
Short phrases without then with compression.
If you're looking for squash you may like it.
