Guyatone BR-2 or DOD FX25?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm currently a DOD FX25 set for dub/dnb/sub bass, with the classic sensitivity all the way off setting for huge sub bass/low pass filtering.

two questions:

will the guyatone BR-2 give me the same sub bass sound when used with a boss OC-2?

where exactly is the frequency range cuttoff for both pedals when used with the threshold/sensitivity knobs turned all the way down, and how does the range knob function when used like this?

i'd prefer the guyatone as it's smaller, black, and takes boss style power. i have the acid green FX25, and well, that thing is ugly but sounds great. they're both reasonably around the same price for me.

I didn't answer because I've only tried the BR-2 once through someone else's rig. It wasn't my kind of filter so I didn't spend a lot of time with it, but I don't remember it being useful for dubby sounds like the FX25. I've used a number of other filters that can do that sound (Maxon AF-9, original Robotalk, the 00Funk etc) when each is set up right but the DOD is the easiest and probably the best sounding. Plus it's cheap and is incredibly funky as a normal filter as well.

That's my take anyway.

these are really 2 different types of filter. the BR isn't as funky, nor is it well suited to dub type stuff. another thing to keep in mind is that BOTH of these pedals have a pretty crappy hardwire/mechanical bypass. That's right: no buffer, not TBP, just a super-sucky bypass like a cheap, crappy wah pedal.

The EBS BassIQ does the restrained BR type filter and can also do dub-type (true lowpass, unlike the fx25) BETTER than the DOD in my opinion. And it gets plenty funky too. Buffered and TBP versions are available

I own both, and as the others have stated, its not very dub like at all.

I got one and played Tool's Jambi a couple of times, then got bored with it and threw it in the cupboard. Should sell it one of these days...

If your choosing between the FX25 and the BR-2, id take the FX25 any day.

Thanks, i'd consider the EBS if i hadn't already come across my DOD for free. i'm using it in a barge VFB-2, so bypass isn't an issue, though finding the right blend ratio enough for it to be heard has been difficult given how many other pedals i have in the same loop.

I'm about to have both... do you have to run the FX25 on batteries?
