HALP! MP Blueberry or SFT?

Sign in to disble this ad
So I'm looking to complete (for now) my effects chain by adding a second drive. What I'm looking for is a more "always on", light to medium drive with a vintage-y, tube-y sound. From what I've found I'm leaning towards the MP Blueberry or SFT, but, of course, I am open to other suggestions!

Only get the SFT if you can run it at 18v.

I'd get the blueberry out of those two BUT what I'd really do with that $$$ is spend it on two pedals.

And the Xotic Bass BB! I love mine

As far as I understand the SFT is a "give-me-a-tiny-Ampeg" kinda pedal.
Might be a good thing to keep in mind when look

Crowther Audio Hot Cake. Fat, pretty dark, very touch sensitive.

Way Huge Pork Loin. Sounds plump and hairy on its own...and if you run a fuzz or distortion into it adds this low end punch to it.

Can't wait to hear your thoughts on it.

I think the SFT (or the Rusty Box, from the sound samples I've heard) would suit your purposes. The BBOD (and Hot Cake, from my experience) is darker and muddier and the Angler was totally unimpressive to my ears.

The SFT does have a pleasantly bright and grindy sound to it that can be left "always on", even when there's not much breakup dialed in. You can think of it as a tone enhancer.

+1. Been wanting to try the SFT for a while now, but I picked up a Bass BB about a month ago, and it is currently doing a very nice job in the OD slot on my board. Pretty transparent, but still capable of some nice grind.

Always liked the demos I've heard of the Rusty Box, but I've never found one anywhere... Tronographic says they'll ship more in late June.
