HAO Rust Ride tone but with Improved lows?

Sign in to disble this ad
Okay, so there's another thread about the BassDrive that's similar to this that I'd been posting in, but didn't want to take over that thread...

Anyway, my primary use for my BassDrive is in CompCut mode with the boost channel engaged. It sounds IMO very similar to the HAO Rust Ride only with less low end loss.

Truth be told, I prefer the Rust Ride's tone slightly but don't want to hassle with running it through a blender.

Is there anything similar to the Rust Ride on the market that will not kill low end? Similarly, is there anyone with enough knowledge about the HAO line to tell me how hard it would be to get one modded to have a blend installed?

It'd be nice to shave a couple square inches of real estate off the board, plus get the exact tone I'm looking for.

Inquiring minds want to know!

Not able to contribute to your question at all, but this is exactly why I got rid of the Rust Ride within a day or two. It didn't make sense to keep the RR when it was a one trick pony whose trick was mimicked so well by a pedal with a lot more to offer.

Though I'm interested in what you find out.

I found the schems to the Rust Driver. Is that similar to the Rust Ride?

Unfortunately I don't know the HAO line well enough to know their design relationship, but I would assume they're closely related based on their function and name similarities.

The enclosures are slightly different sizes, but the Rust Ride has a few additional bells and whistles that the Rust Driver doesn't (selector switch, active/passive input jacks) which would likely explain the larger enclosure.

I loved the tone of my Rust Ride but hated the low end loss. I have recently disclovered the Fulltone OCD. No low end loss and sounds just wonderful!

you consider the tone of the ocd to be similar to both the rust ride and the bass drive in compcut with boost engaged?

The OCD can sound very much like the Rust Ride which was a heavy overdrive without any fizzyness or messy sounding distortion. I always thought the Rust Ride had a better tone then the Bassdrive when set to the heavy channel (boost) in wither FM or Vintage mode. I think the Compcut mode is nothing like the Rust Ride as it has very little overdrive.

The OCD is very versatile whereas the Rust Ride had no control over the amount of gain. The Rust Ride would be a monster if the low end didn't disappear when engaged.
