Can anyone suggest a pedal that give a trebly, sharp overdrive, but keeps the lows? i'm not looking for a fuzz or distortion, just a drive or overdrive pedal with some kick.

Preferably something cheap($50-$150) as well.

Fulltone Bass Drive usually does a good job for this.

Thank you for your responses. To help a little more, the tone i'm trying to get is a mix between John Entwistle's live tone, and Geddy Lee's live tone.

The feedback is very helpful.

geddy lee? john entwistle? sounds like sansamp territory, my friend.

but +1 on the fulltone Bass Drive, but make sure its the mosfet one, i had the original and wanted that raging SVT tone, but couldnt find it. the clips of the Mosfet version ive heard are fantastic.
also if neither the sansamp nor the bassdrive are your thing, then how about the EHX English Muff'n tube overdrive? i used to run a eq pedal with a gain and mid boost into it to get a fantastic entwistle tone out of it, i've had two, but sold them both as i dont really trust the lowend on most guitar pedals, but there are many happy shoppers here that will tell you the Muff'n is amazing and has great lowend.

dont know how cheap these pedals are for you guys, but new in Britain all three range between the £120-160 mark, having said that i paid £112 for a used BassDriver DI, £85 for the original Fulltone Bassdrive, and my last Muff'n cost me £55, all used, all from ebay.

I'm convinced that the Polish Love is the best OD ever, and that it can solve everyone's gain issues. I know that everyone will love it as much as I do.

It's amazing. I'll often play, switching back and forth between the Polish Love and my Hotcake. They're both amazing... but different enough to justify keeping both, which is not what I was hoping for.

I don`t see any good reason why Polish love should not be mentioned. It just seemed to be perfect for what thread starter wanted. IMO Polish love can deliver trebly, sharp overdrive that keeps the lows. It is also quite affordable.

It's an email only order process. Right now he's not accepting any new orders though. You might want to read through the PL thread and hold onto the email address for a few weeks.

This is a little OT, but still relevant.

First of all, thanks for your responses. All this feedback is awesome, and is helping me reach my goal. But I do have one more question.

I've been on the net looking for a Sansamp-type thing, because usually, I'd have a hard time meeting the $200+ asking price. So I've come across the MXR M-80 Bass D.I. and the EHX Bass Metaphors. Both look good, but I can't decide. I've heard samples, and this is the tone I've been looking for. So which one will get me towards my goal? Please help.

Thank you.

How about Sansamp VT bass pedal? I think it is less than 150 $. Maybe that would do? IMO MXR M-80 didn`t sound like Sansamp at all.
