Hartke Bass Attack + my amp = hiss like a cobra! Could it be my cables?

I'm running a Hartke Bass Attack pedal into my combo amp's return jack and I'm getting a lot of hiss. I get the same hiss when I plug it into the input jack. It could be my amp but it's pretty quiet by itself. I played through a Bass Attack into an SVT4 Pro and it was hiss free.

Could it be my cables?

Cables should either work or not - but not induce any hiss.

Thanks! It's just my amp then.

Was it the same pedal that you tried both times?

It wasn't the same pedal. That could indeed be a variable. I have used it in other applications without the hiss, though.

It could be a cable. When a cable is on the way out (connections aren't what they used to be, or a bad crimp) it can introduce noise into the signal. I just cut and soldered some new ends on a noisy cable and it's good as new.
