The old one? Yes

The new reissue? No.

And nad has some clips of the HBE Frostbite which is a very close recreation of the A/DA.

Long story short - it does normal flanging okay but is best as a wacky noise box, at least on bass. Problem is, at more extreme settings it doesn't hold the low end all that well. IMO anyway.

I have not used the A/DA but yes, I had the HBE version for a spell, and from what I understand, they are very close in character (although I once read that the HBE is wilder). Like Jared said, it was less than ideal as a regular flanger, but was AMAZING as a noisemaker.

Funny thing about phasers and flangers on bass, in my experience, the more low end loss they exhibit (at one end of the sweep), the better they stand out in a mix. Something to do with what I like to call... the wobble factor. Here are some in tha mix clipz that demonstrate just that:

Quadrance - 2009 Thusfar (flangitize the beginning)
Quadrance - Incum (flangerization of the end)

I must admit, I traded the Frost Bite for a Hartman many moons ago, and never regretted the decision. But I'll probably pick up one of these A/DA Flanger reissues, because it's far too unique of an effect.

Thanks guys.

I am looking to replace my Japanese Boss BF-2 so I am looking for something in that line of noise making. Doesn't appear the A/DA is where I want to be.

The only pedal that replaced my BF-2... was another BF-2.

Because I foolishly sold the first one.

Please make clips if you do, although your clips of the HBE have basically sold me on the A/DA already.

I had two great flangers:
-Montgomery Appliances '77 Flanger which is a A/DA clone,
-Hartman Flanger which is original Electric Mistress clone.

Both are great, but different. Montgomery is wicked machine with many, many sounds available. I was using it for fake sitar tones. What can I say more?

Hartman is sweet and polite. You can't dial ugly tone even if you want to. Situation drastically changes when you combine it with fuzz - you get awesome noise machine.

If want to use flanger with fuzz I'd go with Hartman, while for clean tones I'd get A/DA.

Ibanez Airplane Flanger also seems to be interesting.

i owned an original vintage one.

it was very versatile, but i just don't like flanging on bass (sorry).

it seemed great for noise making or simple thick tailored flange tones. the inherent tone it had was great (for a flange tone), and i could see why it's so coveted.

I have a byoc flanger and love it. You can get some very usable sounds as well as some noisemaking sounds. Check it out: http://www.buildyourownclone.com/flanger.html

What come closest to coping the sound of the Boss? I like the Boss, just would want something with updated features, such as true bypass.
