Has anyone tried the new Peterson Stomp Classic?

I don't know how to post the pictures and specs. Musicians Friend has them advertised. Has anyone had a chance to try one of these? I want to know if I can calibrate it to A 330. So far only the Planet Waves does that. It's a $100 dollars less but it's it's not a Peterson.

Sonic Research Turbo Tuners are better than Petersons. they are a lot more accurate.

A 330?

I've never tried the Peterson Classic. I had one of their earlier strobostomps and I much prefer my Turbo Tuner.

Typo there. I meant A 430. Can the turbo tuner be calibrated to A 430? Does it do Buzz Feiten tuning?

Heh. I was wondering what the hell kind of tuning you were doing.

From the manual on turbo-tuner.com:

Quote:
Changing the Reference Pitch

The default reference pitch is A4=440 Hz. This can be changed in .1Hz increments to any value from 300.0 Hz to 599.9 Hz.

To change the reference pitch, press the CAL button while turning the tuner on. The A4 LED will flash, and the current setting of A4 will scroll through the note display. You then press the CAL button to scroll through the current setting, and use the FLAT button to change each digit.

After the desired value has been entered, press the CAL button until the note display is blank, and press the FLAT button. The tuner will now resume normal operation.

Whenever the A4 reference is set to anything other than 440.0 Hz, the A4 LED will be illuminated.

So, it will actually do 330 (and 430).

Cheers!

I just received my Stomp Classic yesterday. I had great hopes for it and have been putting it through it's paces today. At this point I'm willing to state that I feel it's an absolute game changer!! Very fast and very accurate. It's fairly large and heavy - it's not going to be scooting across the floor. (I purchased a new Boss TU-3 while I was waiting for the Classic to be released and by comparison the Boss feels - and performs - like a toy!) It feels extremely substantial and has several features I haven't seen anywhere else. My favorite is the Tuner Monitor mode. I generally use my tuner in a side chain that allow me to leave it on full time so that I can monitor in real time. The Stomp Classic has a mode (accessed via a hardware switch - not software) that routes the signal through the tuner circuitry and thus allow you to see your pitch as you're playing. Even in this mode, it still allows you to silent mute should you choose to.

It has an onboard d.i. as well. I haven't checked the d.i. yet, but judging from what I've experience so far I'm certain it's of decent quality. I'll be A/Bing it with my own Summit tube d.i. in a session next week so I'll report back on those results.

One of the biggest complaints I've heard about the older Stomps is battery life. Since I've only had it a couple of days, at this point I can't comment on battery usage except to say that they've appeared to address power consumption in some interesting ways. In monitor mode for example, the tuning circuit is off until a signal is present ,, then it shuts back of within a few seconds of the signal stopping. Again, I'll be happy to report how things work out in the next few weeks.

One last thing. I've seen people criticize the cost of the Peterson. At $189 I feel it's a steal! My Boss TU-3 cost me $100 less than my Peterson ,, and I think it's worth a good deal less than that!

I think this a bit of a furphy. It's all very well having a 0.02% accuracy and then having a 20-led readout that offers 2.5% precision (i.e. to "halfway" between LEDs as it "flips" between one and the next as you approach the note). The Peterson's display has a far higher resolution, and so its (admittedly less accurate 0.1%) reading is far more precisely translated to the screen.

Not dissing the Sonic Research tuner -- it's quick, robust, well-priced and accurate. I just think some of these claims need to be contextualised.

Hi OP.

A=390Hz to A= 490Hz in 1 HZ increments

It does handle alternatives to equal temperament by utilizing "Preset Sweeteners". It has one for bass guitars equipped with Buzz Feiten Tuning Systems. Also a bunch for guitars in various open tunings.

Quite the unit! Feels like it's built like a tank. Lovin it so far.

Big fan of mine as well. Amazingly quick tracking and super accurate. Also dig that you can make your own "sweetened" presets via USB. Updating firmware wasn't too much of a hassle and making my own preset was waaay quick and easy.

Got mine set to focus on standard 5 string plus dropping the E to D. And my band's name as an acronym
